Video Games

I was first exposed to video games as a kid when my mom got me some edutainment PC games. The first games I ever played were Jumpstart and Zoombinis, but it was Eye Witness: Dinosaur Hunter that really captivated my little (dinosaur-obsessed) brain. Those stone hallways felt endless, impossible to navigate mazes that led me day after day to things I'd never seen before. But I was a smart enough kid to know that I was playing games meant for kids. And if this was what kids got, what on Earth could games for adults be?

A few years later, my family got a Wii and I had a similar experience with a copy of Endless Ocean I borrowed from the library. A few years after that, I got my own DS and stumbled into Mario & Luigi and the Pokemon games. Again, courtesy of my local library. And when I was old enough to discover Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, I gnawed away at that game for years. Slowly realizing that not only was this something I was truly fascinated by, but that I was also a woman. A depressive dysphoric funk that lasted all throughout high school left me with a gargantuan Steam library, and as I got older - and I got access to estrogen - my tastes only got better and better.

These days, I float in that awkward valley between "hobbyist game dev" and "girl who knows too much to be normal about RPG discourse." Game design fascinates me as a field of study and conversation, but I lack the technical skill to apply it to actual games beyond simple game modding (Want proof? Look at the state of this website). I love to write, though, and so this is where I take out that creative energy. I have a lot of video game takes - some of them objectively awful - and I fully intend to expose as many people to those opinions as possible.

Kill The Grind, Kill The Game

9/9/2025 - Monster Hunter (PS2)

I took a nearly month-long trip to visit my girlfriend in North Carolina. It was a wonderful time, and I can't wait to go back someday. But, while she was off at work, I took it upon myself to chip away at some PS2 games I had on my backlog. I put a pretty decent dent into Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and dipped my toe into Final Fantasy X, but the game I spent by far the most time on was Monster Hunter...
